The Mission is an Abbey. The word “abbey” comes from abba meaning “father.” Modeled in ancient Celtic history – but quite different from later religious, monastic communities – abbeys are centers of craft and trade, worship and outreach, counsel and guidance, teaching and training, hospitality and rest, love and healing. These communities are havens of refuge and peace, not only to family and friends, but also to strangers and outcasts. Abbeys are to be led and guided by an Abbot, a father, who seeks to protect and cultivate the welfare of the community. In January of 2015, Fr. Chris Sorensen was appointed and commissioned by the Archbishop to be our Abbot.
